IN OUR SCHOOL...
Spring Plant Sale Order Deadline Extended! Monday, April 19: Last call for the Spring Plant Sale! Pre-orders only (no student shopping). Orders are due by tomorrow, April 19, pick-up at an off-site location near school on Friday, May 14. Place your orders HERE (English/Español). The Plant Sale team needs your help sorting orders, and assisting with distribution (helping at the pick-up location and making home deliveries). Sign up to volunteer HERE (English/Español)! Virtual PTA Meeting, Friday, April 23, 9:30am: Join the PTA in welcoming members of the Board of Education (BOE) for a presentation and Q&A about the annual district budget ahead of the critical vote on May 18. Register HERE (registration required); submit questions for the BOE reps via Zoom registration or by emailing the PTA. Spanish interpretation will be available via audio (dial-in: 425-436-6327; access code: 465533). Get informed and make your voice heard at the polls next month!
Opt-Out Notification Deadlines for State Testing (Grades 3-5): State Math and Science assessments for grades 3-5 will be conducted in April and May. If you wish to opt your child out of the Math assessment, please notify Dr. Cohen and your classroom teacher by Tuesday, April 27. Notification for Science testing (grade 4 only) is May 1. If you opt out and your child is not testing, you can choose to keep your child home until 10:30am on the testing day, or send them into school for quiet desk work/reading.
Manorhaven Garden, Volunteers Needed!: The Manorhaven Garden is back in full swing, and parent volunteers are needed as classes start visiting again this spring! Two parent volunteers will be allowed to join each class (sessions are 30-minutes, one class at a time). Two activities will be conducted simultaneously to ensure that there are only 10 students and one adult in the garden itself at any time. Parents will be required to sign a waiver in advance, maintain six-foot distance and stay masked at all times. School staff will be present to oversee students and help enforce social distancing. If you are interested in joining the garden committee or helping out with student sessions, contact Liz Sobel.
NYS Updated Travel Guidance: Please continue to adhere to all NYS Department of Health's travel guidelines and practice COVID safety precautions. NYS has modified travel restrictions; students who travelled domestically no longer need to quarantine if they feel well and are not exhibiting any symptoms. International travelers must continue to follow all travel guidance and requirements, including a quarantine period. If your family is required to quarantine due to travel, or if anyone in your household is awaiting COVID test results, you may request livestreaming for your child. Siblings of children who are awaiting Covid test results are also eligible to livestream. Please provide at least 24-hours notice for livestream requests. All family health updates, livestream requests and questions about school protocols should be directed to Dr. Cohen. The Manorhaven COVID Helpers are at the ready!: Need support while quarantined? The Manorhaven Covid Helpers have you covered! If you are quarantined and unable to leave your home to run essential errands for your family, the Manorhaven Covid Helpers can assist. Please fill out this form (en Español) if you are in need of help and would like to be connected to a volunteer. English-, Spanish-, Japanese-, French- and Hindi Bangla-speaking volunteers are available to help! Still interested in becoming a Manorhaven Covid Helper? It's not too late to join the team. Summer Together 2021 (en Español): Help Port kids attend Port summer camps! Summer Together 2021 is a volunteer-run program that sponsors camp and activity scholarships for Port families in need. Help ensure that ALL of Port's children have a fun, enriching summer! Please donate Online. Checks can be mailed to the address listed on the Website. If you would like to make an earmarked donation to sponsor a Manorhaven student for one week of summer programming ($250), please contact Jess & Caryn by Friday, April 23.
Gold Coast Arts Summer Camp Program: In-person and virtual summer camps available for children ages 6-14. Camp will feature art, Chess, ceramics, musical theater and much more! Camp will run from June 28- August 27, 2021. To register or learn more, click HERE.
